I think Gaza was a de facto Palestinian state in the sense that they had nearly all the sovereign powers any other state would have.

Of course, they are not treated like other sovereign states, but that is also true of Israel. No other country but Israel would be asked to stop fighting before their enemy was defeated.

Much of the world seems to use the Israel Palestine conflict as a stage upon which to exercise their own psychological demons. Many of those demons are anti-semitic in nature, though they often try to hide under the cloak of mere anti-zionism.
